Painting Concrete

Wash the Floor

Notes: The concrete floor must be completely dry before beginning this project. If your floor shows any signs of water seepage, the source of the water must be eliminated before starting. Some of the materials used for this project require special masks and other equipment, due to fumes. Please read all product labels carefully. Allow the floor to dry thoroughly after each coating is applied.

Thoroughly wash floor with a degreasing solution. Rinse several times until mop is clean. Allow to dry for several days.

Sand and Vacuum the Floor

Sand off any old paint or any other uneven areas. Vacuum entire floor, then wipe with tack cloth to remove any residue.

Fill Cracks and Holes

If the surface of your floor is cracked or rough, mix concrete patch compound, following package directions. Fill any cracks or holes in the concrete floor with compound, using trowel to push it into any depressions. Let dry thoroughly. If your floor surface is smooth, skip to the next step.

Apply Primer

Using paint roller, apply two coats of primer, letting the floor dry completely between coats.

Apply Epoxy Paint

Using clean paint roller or paint compressor, apply at least two coats of epoxy paint, letting the floor dry completely between coats.

Apply Masonry Sealer

Using clean roller or compressor, apply several coats of masonry sealer, letting the floor dry completely between coats.
